Email Hosting

Hosting a website is much the same as hosting emails. The same redundancy needs to be considered when hosting emails. If you only have a single server and it fails for any reason you will not receive your emails.

As a standard solution Dusza suggest using POP 3 (the Post Office Protocol version 3) emails that are hosted on the same server as your website. It stands to reason, that if redundancy is a concern to your business you will have already opted for redundancy on your website and thus your email hosting will inevitably already be able to use the same provisions. Pop 3 email hosting allows your email client, for example Outlook, to connect to your web server to download emails. When you send emails your email client will again connect to the web server to do this.  POP 3 also allows you to log into your emails directly on the web server with a username and password which is ideal if you are away from your computer and need to access your emails. Other online applications such as iGoogle now allow you to connect to your POP 3 emails whilst logged in.
